Use aerobridges, gov't orders PH airlines
MANILA, Philippines - Citing safety and security of airline passengers, a government agency has ordered the mandatory use of aerobridges in all airports in the country that have them.
In a January 24 memorandum and cease-and-desist order, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) essentially snubbed the plea of local airlines, especially those offering no-frills service, not to use the facility to save on time spent loading passengers and reduce turnaround time at airports.
The CAAP order also set a P50,000 fine against airlines that refuse the use of the aerobridges at airports where these are available.
"Effective immediately, all Philippine carriers are hereby ordered to cease and desist from implementing any and all corporate policy geared towards evading or avoiding the use of such Aerodome facilities," said CAAP's Deputy Director General John C. Andrews who signed both documents. - Rappler.com
