NAIA passengers inch up 1% to 19.6M in Jan-July
MANILA, Philippines – The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) accommodated 19.618 million passengers in January-July, up 1% from the same period of 2012.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the volume of passengers rose by 200,000 from the 19.418 million recorded in the first 7 months of 2012.
Arriving and departing international passengers in NAIA increased 4.8% to 8.95 million. The volume of domestic passengers, however, declined 2% to 10.66 million year-on-year.
Foreign flights soared 9.2% to 50,074 in the first 7 months, while domestic flights fell 5.7% to 88,274.
"There was a small decline in domestic, but substantial increase in international," said MIAA General Manager Angel Honrado.
NAIA handled a total of 138,348 flights in January-July.
The government aims to decongest NAIA with the full operation of Terminal 3. The Transportation department sealed a deal with Japan's Takenaka Corp. for the completion of renovation works at the terminal.
