MANILA, Philippines - Even if traveling around the Philippines – an archipelago of over 7,100 islands – is most convenient by flying, it was only in 2005 when the local airline industry started to soar.
That was when Cebu Pacific, the first in Asia to introduce the budget airline concept, decided to fully embrace the low-cost model. Since then, other local airlines followed, also dropping fares to as low as P1 or zero, offering online ticket buying, and opening new routes here and abroad.
