BSP issues limited edition P10-Miguel Malvar coin
MANILA, Philippines – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) launched Monday, December 21 the new limited edition P10-commemorative circulation coin featuring hero Miguel Malvar.
The coin, released in time for the 150th birth anniversary of Malvar, will be available starting Tuesday, December 22 at the cash department of the BSP main office (Manila) and Security Plant Complex (Quezon City); Davao and Cebu regional offices; and Lucena and Iloilo branches.
As a matter of policy, BSP commemorates significant events and heroic Filipinos in the country’s history through the minting of coins, medals, or overprints on Philippine banknotes.
Malvar was the last Filipino general to surrender to the Americans during the revolution. After the capture of Emilio Aguinaldo and the surrender of other Filipino generals, Malvar assumed full command of the revolutionary forces.
"General Malvar’s valor, resilience, and patriotism serve as inspiration to our fellow Filipinos," BSP said.
Malvar coin features
The obverse side of the newest commemorative coin shows the portrait of Miguel Malvar and the markings “10-Piso" (P10); “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS” (Republic of the Philippines); and “Heneral Miguel Malvar” (General Miguel Malvar).
The reverse side has the new seal of the BSP and the markings “150 taon” (150th year); “1865-2015," and the “Monument of Malvar."
