FAO reappoints PH as external auditor
MANILA, Philippines - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has re-appointed and given the Philippines a fresh 6-year term as its external auditor.
In a briefing on Wednesday, March 27, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Commission on Audit (COA) Grace Tan is the only female auditor in the United Nations system.
"Chairman Grace Tan was in Rome and the staff, the embassy staff there, as well as the agriculture attaché were instrumental in laying the presentation—laying the groundwork for the presentation of the Philippines as one of the candidates as an external auditor for FAO," Lacierda said.
"We were elected to a 6-year term and I would like to congratulate Chairman Grace Tan who, by the way, is the only female external auditor in the entire UN system," he added.
The FAO's mandate is to help in achieving food security for all. It aims to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.
FAO also aims to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy. - Rappler.com
