'Wowowillie' to end in October
MANILA, Philippines - Television personality Willie Revillame announced on May 21, the end of local noontime show "Wowowillie" in October, reported TV5 online news site Interaksyon.
The "Wowowillie" host confirmed the end of his contract on October and cited personal reasons for ending the show.
Revillame expressed his need for a long vacation, however, he made no mention of when he plans to return to the small screen.
“Ako muna’y magpapahinga ng ilang buwan, ng isang taon o anuman, malalaman ninyo. Tatapusin ko na lang po ang kontrata ko sa TV5. Ang last day of my contract ay October 15. Maybe October 12 will be the last show ng ‘Wowowillie.'"
(I will rest for a a few months, for a year perhaps. I'll let you know. I will finish my contract with TV5. The last day of my contract is on October 15. Maybe October 12 will be "Wowowillie's last show).
Although there had been no confirmation of Revillame's total retirement from showbiz, the management earlier released a statement conceding Revillame's "decision to retire."
”We respect the decision of Mr. Willie Revillame to retire upon the expiry of his contract with TV5. We wish him well in his new pursuits.”
Blogsite Fashion Pulis recently reported thet the network refused to renew Revillame's contract due to his demand for a P90 million monthly salary. The host reportedly filed a letter of resignation afterwards.
On May 17, business unit head for Revillame's production company Wil Productions, Jay Montelibano, denied that such an agreement took place.
The past few months have been controversial for the show, after Revillame's lashed out publicly against co-hosts Ethel Booba and Ate Gay in January. In April, the MTRCB gave the show a Strict Parental Guidance (SPG) rating and placed Wowowillie under a 6-month probationary period in April for its female dancers' "skimpy outfits." - Rappler.com
