'The Voice PH' pilot to air June 15
MANILA, Philippines - Those holding their breath for "The Voice of the Philippines" now have only hours to wait until the June 15 pilot episode of the singing competition.
This first episode airs over ABS-CBN channel 2 at 9pm. It will show the Blind Auditions in which celebrity coaches and judges Lea Salonga, Apl.De.Ap., Bamboo Mañalac and Sarah Geronimo choose the contestants they will mentor based only on their voices.
The judges' backs will be turned as the contestants sing. If they like the voice they hear, they will push a red button to signify they want the contestant on their team. Each judge chooses 12 aspirants who will move on to the next rounds: the Battle Round and the Live Performances.
Actress-singer Toni Gonzaga will host the show along with Robi Domingo and Alex Gonzaga who will give updates and highlights as "V" hosts.
Viewers can expect interesting contestants to root for. According to an ABS-CBN press release, among the aspirants are a "rakista" dad, balut vendor, taxi driver and fresh college graduate.
The press release adds that one of the contestants drove Sarah Geronimo to tears.
"The Voice of the Philippines" is a local version of the popular "The Voice" television singing contest that first aired in the Netherlands in 2010. In 3 years, over 40 countries have created local versions. One of them is the popular US version judged by celebrities like Usher, Shakira, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. - With reports from Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
