Behn Cervantes taken to hospital
MANILA, Philippines - Stage and screen actor-director Behn Cervantes was taken Sunday night, July 28, to the Asian Hospital in Alabang, following a bout with pneumonia with complications.
A post on Cervantes's Facebook account by activist and professor Judy Taguiwalo says Cervantes will be treated for pneumonia with septic infection of the blood. The post also appealed for any assistance.
Cervantes, who will turn 75 on August 26, is a leading figure in Philippine theater. Among his notable works in Philippine cinema, where he is also critically acclaimed, is the 1976 social-realist film "Sakada."
Together with the late film director Lino Brocka, Cervantes had also been at the forefront of the anti-Marcos protest movement during the 14-year dictatorship.
