Playing this Week: Monsters and wrongful accusations

MANILA, Philippines – Take your pick this week and choose from hair-raising horror movies, an action-packed flick, and a sci-fi thriller.

1. Oculus

Kaylie Russell is convinced her brother was wrongfully convicted for their parents’ murder 10 years ago. After his release from prison, Tim finds himself wrapped up in his sister’s plans to prove him innocent. She tracks down an antique mirror, which she believes contains supernatural powers that were responsible for her parents’ death. The movie, directed by Mike Flanagan, features Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Katee Sackhoff, and James Lafferty.

2. Godzilla

A fan favorite is reborn in this new action-adventure flick by Gareth Edwards. In the face of great threats against humanity, the world is rendered defenseless. Their only hope? Godzilla. Starring Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Directed by Gareth Edwards.

An out of control house party takes a turn for the worse when 3 teenagers realize there are supernatural versions of themselves present in the same event. Amid the chaos, their friendships are tested as they must now fight to stay alive. Starring Ashley Hinshaw, Rhys Wakefield and Natalie Hill. Directed by Dennis Illiadis.

4. Amy

When a young Amish woman begins to notice strange things happening in her village, she seeks the help of an exorcist to save them all from demonic possession. Things don’t go as planned and quickly go awry. Starring Christopher Atkins, Jessica DiGiovanni, and Kurt Mason Peterson. Directed by Patnaik R.P.
