What Ben Affleck thinks of fan reactions to ‘Batman’ role
MANILA, Philippines – When news broke that Ben Affleck would take the role of Batman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, quite a few netizens were not pleased. Christian Bale’s turn as the Caped Crusader is a tough act to follow – would Ben Affleck be up to the task?
He’s kept mum about the uproar surrounding his casting news, but he spoke about just that in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
It turns out that all that backlash was anticipated, at least in part. “Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, ‘Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions,’” explained Ben, who cited a great story and a good script as factors for his taking on the project.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion…I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think I could do it,” he added.
He also says that for each role, he’s worked hard to get into character, and that he believes that it’s up to the actor the “get their physical self as close to the role as possible,” so he’s been working out a lot for Batman.
The movie, set to hit theaters in 2016, will see the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, and will also star Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. A new photo of her in her superhero outfit was shared on Twitter by director Zack Snyder during Comic-Con back in July. Zack also recently tweeted a photo of Batman up close.
