WATCH: Kanye West's awesome 'American Idol' audition
MANILA, Philippines – Does Kanye West have what it takes to be the next American Idol? We find out in the spoof video the show released on Monday, January 4, as promotion for their upcoming season.
In the video, Kanye walks into the audition room to face judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. He introduces himself and says he's from the south side of Chicago.
"Originally a producer," he says, when asked what he does. "I always wanted to rap and nobody really believed in me."
Outside the audition room, Kanye's wife, a then-pregnant Kim Kardashian, talks to host Ryan Seacrest. "I'm not nervous, 'cos I do really believe in him. And didn't give any advice on singing, rapping, I just, you know," she says, crossing her fingers, "I hope they really believe in him."
The show has been teasing this audition since October, and Kim gave birth to son Saint West early in December.
Back inside, Kanye tells the judges that he's going to perform an original, and it has one of the judges' names in it.
"It better f-cking be me," JLo whispers, before Kanye launches into an a cappella version of “Gold Digger,” which does mention the singer.
The audition room was all smiles after Kanye's rap – it looks like Yeezy is going to Hollywood.
The upcoming season of American Idol is its 15th and final season. In the Philippines, the season premiere will be aired on etc on Thursday, January 7at 6 pm. The channel will also air a primetime telecast at 7 pm.
