Catching up with Maine Mendoza
MANILA, Philippines – Two years since she burst into the scene as the lovable Yaya Dub on Eat Bulaga, Maine Mendoza is now starring in her first primetime soap.
Maine will be on the show Destined to Be Yours, alongside on-screen partner Alden Richards. The show aired last Monday, February 26.
In an interview with reporters at the CDO Funtastyk event on Tuesday, February 28, Maine said she's happy about the feedback she's read on social media about her and Alden starring in their first show together.
(I've only seen the feedback on Twitter. I'm happy because what I saw was mostly positive, so thank you, thank you, because your really waited for and looked out for it, Destined to Be Yours.)
Since this is her first show, Maine admitted that she wasn't very comfortable about it yet. "Medyo awkward, kasi first soap ko po iyon," she said about the experience.
(It was a bit awkward, because it's my first soap. But at the same time, it's also fulfilling. That wow, this is it. What Alden and I worked hard on is now airing – one thing that I thought I couldn't do. One thing I was afraid of, but is here in front of me.)
In Destined to Be Yours, Maine plays Sinag, a young girl who doesn't believe in destiny. Alden is Benjie, an architect who doesn't take ladies seriously. Their paths cross during one of Benjie's visits to the province. Watch the show's trailer below:
Maine is set to celebrate her birthday on Friday, March 3, with her family and close friends. She also told the media that she wants to celebrate with her Eat Bulaga family.
Is she excited to celebrate her birthday this year?
"Oo, pero nalulungkot ako. Yung birthday blues na tinatawag nila," she said. (Yes, but I also feel sad. It's what they call the birthday blues.)
(I really don't know, it's like I don't want to have my birthday because I look forward to. But I also feel sad because when I celebrate my birthday, that's it.)
When asked if she thinks Alden will surprise her on her birthday, Maine said: "Ay wala pa.
(I really don't know because we've not talked about it. If there is a surprise, let's all be surprised together.)
As for her birthday wish, Maine said she's not asking for anything else but would like to join the Kalyeserye tour in the US.
Para kahit papaano iyon na din yung birthday gift ko and mini-summer ko for myself."
(Nothing really. But I maybe the Kalyeserye tour in the U. I hope I'll be able to be given a chance to segway to New York. That way, it's my birthday gift and mini-summer for myself.)
With how her career is now doing, is there anything else she's asking for?
"Honestly, wala na po. Okay na po," she said. (Honestly, I have nothing to ask. I'm already okay.) – Rappler.com
