Angel Locsin to return as ‘Darna’ in new movie
MANILA, Philippines – Angel Locsin will once again return as Darna after Star Cinema announced that she was chosen to play the role of Mars Ravelo's iconic superhero in an upcoming movie adaptation.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Angel said the yet untitled Darna movie is one of the biggest projects ever done by the film company.
"Naku, you have no idea kung gaano kalaki! Kasi kahit ako, nagulat, eh. Hindi niyo (Star Cinema) 'yan sa akin sinasabi. Sabi ko, 'Sandali lang, ha. Ganito pala kalaki ito?' As in, never ako naka-experience ng ganito kalaking project, o nakarinig man lang,” she said.
(You have no idea how big this is. Even I was shocked. They (Star Cinema) did not tell me. I said ‘Wait, is this really big?’ As in , never did I experience this kind of big project or heard of it.)
"First time ito. First time ito sa buong history ng Pilipinas," she added.
(This is the first time, it’s the first time in Philippine history.)
The movie will be directed by Erik Matti.
The full cast has yet to be revealed by Star Cinema, but Angel said that the new movie is “daring.”
She also said that the project is a milestone in her career, having portrayed the role in 2005 when she was still with GMA-7.
“Wala, wala na akong mahihiling pagkatapos nito. Parang ano kasi... Sobrang – pasensya na kayo, ha! Nalulula kasi talaga ako. Sobrang laki niya. Ang laki niya talaga. Right now, sobrang kontento na ako sa nangyayari at sobra-sobra pa nga ang nangyayari," she said.
(Nothing. I have nothing to wish for after this. I am still dazed. It’s really this big. Right now, I am so content with what’s happening.)
Aside from Darna, the Ravelo family has given to ABS-CBN the rights to bring to life the other characters created by Mars Ravelo in an agreement last 2013. This includes Dyesebel played by Anne Curtis, and Captain Barbell.
Since the iconic superhero debut in comics in the 1950s, Darna has been portrayed by various actresses – among them Vilma Santos, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, and Marian Rivera. – Rappler.com
