Will Filipino singer Marlisa Punzalan be 'X-Factor Australia' big winner?
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino contestant Marlisa Punzalan wowed the audience and the judges at the grand finale, live performance show of X-Factor Australia – but is it enough to secure her win?
Marlisa 15, along with the other two finalists – Dean Ray and Brothers3 – performed before a huge crowd Sunday night, October 19.
Marlisa thanked everyone for their support as well as her mentor Ronan Keating.
Ronan himself had earlier tweeted that he was proud of Marlisa, no matter what.
Via its official Twitter account, the show tweeted that Marlisa got the first standing ovation after her first performance at the finale.
She later sang her winner's single, "Stand by You."
For her final performance, she took to the stage to sing with Australian Idol runner-up Jessica Mauboy.
Marlisa, who grew up in Australia but whose parents are from the Philippines, first wowed judges when she auditioned with the song "Yesterday" by The Beatles, and she brought her A game to the finale.
Her string of performances had fans cheering for her on and offline, and prompted mentor Ronan to get emotional.
Though Marlisa has won over viewers with her powerful voice, she faces tough competition from Brothers3 and Dean Ray.
Brothers3, a trio of teenage siblings who play their own instruments and have a folky, country-inspired sound, are also popular for their distinct sound and their good looks.
On Twitter, fans especially praised their finale performance of "Safe and Sound" (by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars), with many saying that their matured throughout the competition.
Brothers3 is mentored by Dannii Minogue, and they performed with singer Guy Sebastian at the finale.
Rounding out the top 3 is singer-songwriter Dean Ray, mentored by Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Dean has previously battled alcoholism and has struggled with demons from his past.
But his solid showing and his versatility had judge Redfoo peg him as a potential winner.
Dean performed with Olly Murs, singing "Dear Darling."
The winner will be revealed in the grand finale results show on Monday, October 20. Audiences have already begun voting for their favorite.
