PH all-male choir takes top prize in South Korea competition
MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino all-male choir called Aleron was declared the grand prize winner at the 10th Busan International Choral Festival and Competition held in South Korea last October 13-18.
According to a press release, Aleron choir beat out 38 other choirs from 8 different countries, including Czech Republic, Russia, and Colombia. The group won the Gold Prize in the Classical Equal Voices category, which qualified them to advance to the Grand Prix round.
The Aleron choir was led by choir director Christopher Amado Ong Arceo. The group previously received the First Prize distinction in the Vocal Ensemble category in the 1st Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival last August 2013.
Two other Filipino choirs - the Juan Luna Elementary School Children’s Choir and Coro San Benildo, also placed in the competition.
