Willie Revillame returns to GMA-7
MANILA, Philippines – Host Willie Revillame announced his return to network GMA-7 through a contract-signing on Friday, March 20.
The host and television personality signed a contract with GMA Network for his weekly game-slash-variety show WowoWin soon.
The show will reportedly air every Sunday from 3:50PM to 5PM after Sunday All Stars, and will be directed by friend and former co-host Randy Santiago.
“Dito naman talaga ako nagsimula (this is where I began), I'm back where I truly belong,” Revillame tells reporters.
According to an earlier report by Pep, Willie was in talks about buying airtime with the network, and that even former rival Joey de Leon of Eat Bulaga was helping him with the transfer.
“Rinig ko si Joey pa nga ang nagpu-push [na matuloy],” shared Redgie Acuna-Magno, VP for Drama Productions of GMA-7, to Pep.
(I heard Joey [De Leon] was pushing for Willie's plans to continue.)
However, during that time, plans were not yet final, as Redgie reiterated that the final decision of Willie’s plans rested on senior management.
Comeback to television
Willie Revillame started out as a host on GMA’s Lunch Date in the early 90s along with Randy Santiago. After his hosting stint, he entered ABS CBN via the show Richard Loves Lucy. He went on to host noontime show Magandang Tanghali Bayan with Randy and John Estrada. He eventually got to host his own variety show Wowowee in 2005, but was cancelled in 2010.
After a 5-month hiatus, Willie Revillame signed a contract with rival network TV5 to host his own variety show Willing-Willie (later re-named Wil Time Bigtime). In the process, he faced a lot of controversy, especially in 2011, where the visual of a young and unhappy boy made to macho dance on the show received a lot of backlash, especially from social welfare groups.
After the cancellation of Wil Time Bigtime, Willie’s new show Wowowillie premiered on January 26, 2013 but was later on cancelled in October of the same year, due to poor ratings. – Rappler.com
