Showbiz couples: just friends?
MANILA, Philippines – "We're just friends."
It's a line the showbiz world is all too familiar with. More often than not it invites more speculation, and ignites hope that future interviews may squeeze out even the slightest hint of a confession.
While Angel Locsin has publicly declared her love for Luis Manzano, other celebrities have been shying away from the 4-letter word.
Here's the latest on rumored celebrity couples, because what would Pinoy showbiz be without the kilig factor?
Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford: Friendship and flowers
Actress and model Coleen Garcia recently told Pep.ph how she often enjoys receiving flowers from singer Billy Crawford. But the 21-year-old was quick to add that they are merely enjoying each other's company and that they maintain a professional relationship at work.
"Nothing special during work," she told Pep.ph, explaining how cast members are all close friends having fun on the set of noontime variety show Showtime, where the two serve as co-hosts.
A week ago however, Crawford straightforwardly confessed to courting the young model in an interview with Buzz ng Bayan.
"Yes, nililigawan ko. (Yes, I am courting her.) She is not my girlfriend yet, and I would love for her to be," he said, adding that courtship is as far as their status goes. “Coleen and I are not boyfriend and girlfriend. We are not a couple yet. That’s pretty much it."
But what's stopping them? Perhaps the rumor mill is to blame.
Crawford's highly publicized break-up with ex-girlfriend Nikki Gil in Jully 2013 caused a stir, considering the couple's 5-year relationship had earned a following. Rumors pointed to Garcia as a factor in the split.
But the two maintain that their relationship had not caused the break-up. “Coleen is definitely not part of my past relationship at all,” said Crawford in the Buzz ng Bayan interview, adding that he will continue to pursue her.
In the same way, Garcia told Pep.ph that knowing the truth is enough for her to move forward with Crawford.
Jessy Mendiola: Not ready
Showbiz's most eligible bachelors have been romantically linked to actress Jessy Mendiola, most notably actors Jake Cuenca, Sam Milby, and JC de Vera. But in a recent interview with Pep.ph, the Maria Mercedes actress only has this to say to her suitors: "I'm not ready."
“Alam naman nilang lahat na pumuporma at nanliligaw na hindi pa ako ready pa, trabaho pa talaga ako. Ganun yun, pag nanliligaw sila, opening spiels ko, ‘I’m not ready.’ Dun, matira ang matibay," she said. (All my suitors know that I'm not ready, I'm focused on my work. My opening spiel when they tell me they're pursuing me, is 'I'm not ready.')
The 21-year-old actress told Pep.ph that she looks up to co-star Jake Cuenca as a "kuya" (older brother) who is sweet not only to her, but to everyone else.
Cuenca had been vocal about his feelings for Mendiola, telling ABS-CBN that he intends to pursue the actress even after the end of their soap opera. Mendiola, however, told Pep.ph that she doesn't see the actor as a match for her.
"Feeling ko, hindi lang talaga talo. Same handler kami. Oo, puwede naman, pero kasi, para sa akin, parang hindi swak." (I feel like we're not a match. We're under the same handler, and it could be, but for me, it's really not an exact fit).
In the same way, Mendiola found amusement in rumors linking her to De Vera, explaining their rumored date was in fact, a gathering with friends. Meanwhile, Mendiola also told Pep.ph that she and Milby had not been in communication lately and that the actor has focused his attention on his coffee shop business.
Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli: Low-key love?
Singer Sarah Geronimo has for the most part of her career, kept her private life under wraps. But a recent feature in Yes! magazine hints that that Pop Princess has found love. Her rumored prince? Actor and model Matteo Guidicelli.
An article by Pep.ph gives a sneak peek on the Yes! article saying the two have decided to keep their newfound romance away from the limelight.
Rumors about the couple were a hot topic around October 2013.
“I don’t think I have an obligation to trumpet to the entire world that I am in love [again] and I am sooooo happy," she told the press during a press con for her Perfect 10 concert.
"Sarap. (It feels good) I no longer believe in falling in love in public.”
In an interview with Buzz ng Bayan in November 2013, Geronimo, who had been linked to actors Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson, said she had fallen in love twice. But she had learned through these past loves that she deserved someone better.
The singer, who has been known to have strict parents, said she considers it important to be able to make her own decisions, most importantly, regarding matters about love. – Rappler.com
