The knighthood of Joaquin Borlongan
BULACAN, Philippines - Forty-five out of 46 couples marched down the church aisle last Saturday, February 11, for the mass wedding hosted by the Malolos City government. The 46th couple backed out on the day of the wedding, the youngest brides are pregnant eighteen-year-olds, the youngest groom is an 18-year-old high school student and soft drink vendor who married a 22-year-old he has lived with since he was 16. The oldest couple, collectively, is 73-year-old Rodolfo Redoblado who married 64-year-old recently retired school teacher Carmelita Sarmiento.
The oldest groom is Joaquin Borlongan, 75, Knight of Columbus, former bag merchant, who married 56-year-old Teresita Mateo after they met four months ago when Joaquin came home from New York City.
