Halloween costumes inspired by viral videos
MANILA, Philippines - Halloween's just a few weeks away, and if you want fun and timely costumes for the parties you'll be attending, you should look no further than this year's viral videos.
Stand out among the bedsheet ghosts and store-bought masks by wearing something unique, yet instantly recognizable.
Here are 5 suggestions sure to spark conversation:
1) The "Jeane Napoles"
The notorious daughter of alleged pork barrel mastermind Janet Lim Napoles has a distinct, nouveau-riche style sure to turn heads. If you can't afford a genuine Herve Leger bandage dress (and you're definitely not alone here), then any super-short, super-tight bandeau dress will do. High-heeled pumps, heavy make-up, and a (fake) designer bag pull the look together.
Optional accessory: a golden piggy bank.
2) The "SM Elevator Lady"
This costume is especially apt if you're attending a party in a condo, hotel, or any building with a busy elevator. Don a gray office suit, preferably in polyester, as well as a jaunty little cap of the same material. Thick make-up, large pearl earrings, and a blue, patterned scarf are also key. The most important part of the costume, though, is the chirpy, nasal voice and memorized advice. Watch the video a few times and practice the lines. The more accurately you perform your skit, the more successful your costume will be.
Optional accessory: a white leather stool
3) The "Fox"
Norwegian music duo Ylvis comes out with one hilarious music video after another, but none have been as huge as "What Does the Fox Say?" Featuring the duo in silly, full-body fox costumes making all kinds of ridiculous animal calls, this music video just screams (and screeches, clucks, and howls) Halloween. Just find a full-body fox costume, or make one if you know your way around a sewing machine.
Optional accessory: a music player playing actual fox sounds on loop
4) The "Minion"
These cute yellow critters have been warming hearts since the first "Despicable Me" animated film, and even more have come to love them when the sequel came out this year. Coat yourself entirely in yellow body paint; suit up in denim overalls, black rubber gloves and black leather boots; and snap on some thick, round goggles. A true test of your dedication to your costume: shaving your hair off. If you can't do it, though, a yellow swimming cap will do.
Optional accessory: a banana and a potato
5) The "Miley Cyrus Twerk-Mouse"
Miley Cyrus' furry cartoon mouse one-piece is the Halloween costume to end all Halloween costumes. A gray bathing suit with felt cut-outs for the mouse's face will do well. Tie your hair up into two tight little knots, smear on bright red lipstick, and sport plain white sneakers without socks. Also, make a manicured #1 finger out of foam. Of course, the costume does undergo a drastic change later on in the video, but finding (much less wearing) a beige latex bikini is entirely up to you. The twerking option is also according to personal preference. Regardless, make sure to stick your tongue out every few seconds, especially in conversation.
Optional accessory: a gigantic robot teddy bear to emerge from
