[Fashion] Blockbuster bests
MANILA, Philippines - They say music influences fashion. Think ska, mod, hip-hop, and grunge. The only genre that has yet to have a fashion 'proprietary look' is pop, actually.
Edsa Shangri-La Mall debunks this believe, though, by showing that cinema can influence fashion, too. Maybe not with style per se, but with styling — yes.
In a fashion show dubbed 'Shang Blockbuster City' held at the mall atrium last May 5, stylish sneak peeks of this season's most popular summer trends inspired by soon-to-be-shown movies walked the runway, in a parade of kid, tween, and teen models.
Pastels, pink, and prints clashed in styles inspired by the two animated movies for the young and young-at-heart. Tropical brights, layers of light fabrics, and a mix of different textures opened the show.
Men in Black 3
Monochrome, streetwear, and club wear perfectly represented the 3rd installment of the alien movie starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. Harem pants in cotton jersey are back. Sporty styling with an urban edge is back in.
G.I. Joe Retaliation
Military green dominated the collection inspired by the hit movie otherwise inspired by a hit cartoon series in the '90s. Printed scarves, socks, and camouflage gave soft and girly outfits a touch of tough.
Snow White and the Huntsman
Just like the movie, the collection is a combination of glam and tough. Children's wear was dominated by bejeweled frou-four; ladies' wear was laced with sophistication.
Brands that participated in 'Shang Blockbuster City' were Zara, Plains and Prints, Kids of Bayo, Mint, Lush+O, Una Rosa, Gap, Debendrams, Naf Naf, Folded & Hung, Fletcher, PJ Sleepwear, Crossings Department Store, Human, Converse, Bench, Osh Kosh B’ Gosh, Mothercare, Space, Bayo, Rustan’s Department Store, Gingersnaps, R.A.F., and Periwinkle. - Rappler.com
