LRT commuters get surprise dance, music shows
MANILA, Philippines – Commuters waiting at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 stations on Monday, January 20, were treated to on-the-spot arts shows by professional performers gathered by government and arts and cultural groups.
At LRT Line 1's Doroteo Jose station in Manila, the award-winning Halili-Cruz Ballet Company, TUP Kalinangan Dance Troupe, and JR New System showed off different types of dance, from ballet, to folk, to hiphop.
Veteran painter Nemesio Miranda had an on-the-spot painting session, while poet Vim Nadera staged a performance for the crowd.
At LRT Line 2's Cubao station, Iloilo-based musician Armor Rapista entertained commuters with his unique sound. The National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts staged a mini-exhibit on mosques, and there was also a performance from the Sipat Lawin Ensemble, a theater group composed of alumni from the Philippine High School of the Arts.
The activity, called “Ani ng Sining sa LRT Stations,” was a joint effort from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Light Rail Transit Authority.
