MANILA, Philippines – Here’s one mystery solved, leading up to coronation night: Binibini 13 Kris Tiffany Janson was announced as the best in national costume during the Bb Pilipinas 2014: The Road to the Crown special that aired on ABS-CBN on Sunday, March 23.
Kris earlier told Rappler that her gown, created by popular fashion designer Cary Santiago, was inspired by the sampaguita flower and represents purity.

The white gown was a modern take on the terno and other variations on the usual national costumes, as it also featured a semi-sheer long skirt and sleeves. Kris also carried a small white umbrella as a prop.
The semi-sheer element was actually one of a few trends spotted during the national costume competition. Bb 39, Ladylyn Riva’s outfit, by Cherry Samuya Veric, featured a removable skirt which revealed matching trousers underneath. Bb 31, Angelique Celine de Leon’s short dress by designer Jeffrey Rogador, featured words worked into the colorful fabric.

Modern iterations of the national costumes were also featured, seen in the outfits of candidates like Hannah Ruth Sison, who wore a creation by Vania Romoff, and Kimverlyn Suiza, whose Richie Bondoc gown featured leathery accents.

The Bb Pilipinas top 40 candidates walked the runway in their glamorous best on March 6. Earlier that same evening, they also took a turn on the catwalk in JAG casual wear.
The pressure is mounting for the ladies as the March 30 coronation night draws closer.
