Global Mala: More than just yoga classes
MANILA, Philippines-With over 40 different classes to choose from during Global Mala, offerings expanded to include healing modalities as well.
Global Mala Manila 2013 was quite different from last year's celebration. Not only did the number of participants increase, the number of classes offered this year almost doubled. The focus of this event is to house everything yoga, with the premise of doing good, sharing ourselves, and bringing awareness to pressing issues, under one roof. This year we celebrated, danced, chanted, and posed in White Space on Pasong Tamo Extension.
Years ago Shiva Rhea began Global Mala, with the hopes of people celebrating peace and environmentalism across 7 continents and even more cities and countries. Teresa Herrera has encouraged the entire yogic community here in Manila to "Come Together" for this very same cause since Global Mala's inception in 2007.
Almost 2 dozen yoga classes, drumming, poi, theta healing, reiki and informative and inspirational talks spread throughout the day brought over 900 people to the venue in search of exercise and kindred spirit. Lifestyle tips from EIC of Working Mom Dedet Panabi, aimed at achieving a work/life balance, helped attendees, while Making Better Life Decisions with Coach Pia addressed everyday concerns.
Reiki MasterLia Bernardo enlightened students on how reiki is a very gentle healing energy, and how the healer is a channel to the universal life force energy. She explained dis-ease, simply by breaking down the dis-ease we feel when from imbalanced chakras. By learning how to balance the chakras and heal the negative emotions we might carry around with us, we minimize the chance of dis-ease. Participants were treated to a reiki session through chakra balancing by the team of Reiki healers, Jinky Canoy, Tata Mapa, and Analiya Ancajas.
Theta Healing was offered by Third Eye Wellness. Theta works on healing a person from their negative beliefs in order to achieve the positive results in their lives or their bodies. Every illness has a belief attached to it, and Theta works on healing that belief.
Other talks that took place were:
- An introduction to Meditation and Dharma talk by Imee Contreas
- Raw-volutionize Your Life by Monalisa Neuboeck
- Yoga Philosophy by Dona Esteban
Even Vinyasa yoga benefits multiplied as live music was added to the fold. Class became a dance. The teacher led the students through that "dance" where one pose flowed to the next and the breath followed.
Each practitioner can take advantage of all of these different healing modalities here in Manila. Global Mala brought all of them together in true fashion which is what Shiva Rhea set out to do in 2007. Mala brings people together to teach and share all the different gifts that we can offer one other, better yet, all for a good cause. - Rappler.com
