Barrage of texts sent to Indonesia attorney general
MANILA, Philippines – In a last-ditch effort to spare the life of Mary Jane Veloso, Filipinos holding a vigil in Manila sent a barrage of text messages to Indonesian Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo.
The Indonesian Attorney General confirmed the execution of 9 drug convicts by firing squad, including Veloso, will proceed at 1:00 am Wednesday, April 29 (midnight, Indonesian time)
"We have a few hours left to save Mary Jane. We ask you to send a text message to Jokowi and the Indonesian Attorney General," Nardy Sabino of the Church Task Force to Save Mary Jane urged the public on Tuesday night.
"Pak (Mr) Jokowi, Pak (Mr) Prasetyo, You're not weak if you choose to let someone live. Please don't execute someone who did not get a fair trial. Save Mary Jane! #BiarkanHidup (#Letherlive)."
The task force, through the Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR), initiated the #SaveMaryJane appeal which now holds the record for being the fastest growing appeal on the petition platform Change.org Philippines. (READ: #SaveMaryJane among most signed Change.org petitions)
PCPR joined hundreds of other groups and individuals in a candle-lighting vigil in front of the Indonesian Embassy in Makati to call for the Indonesian government to save Veloso’s life. – Rappler.com
