Preparing for our online Holy Week retreat
Here’s one way of preparing yourself for our online retreat:
Think about what’s going on in your life
here and now.
Whether you know it or not,
this Lent finds you in a particular season in your life.
How would you describe the present season of your life?
There are two ways of doing this.
One is to determine whether externally
you’re going through a season of calm
or a season of turbulence.
If there is some kind of turbulence around you,
which signal would you use to describe it?
You may want to indicate your answer in this survey,
and compare it with your fellow retreatants'.
A second way of monitoring the season in your life
is to look inward: Do you have an overall sense of peace
or disquiet – i.e., some kind of worry, anxiety, restlessness?
Just because it’s calm outside doesn’t necessarily mean
one has a sense of peace inside.
It’s quite possible that despite the surface calm,
you may actually feel a lot of restlessness within.
Or it may well be the case
that even if there is great turbulence around you,
for some mysterious reason,
you experience a deeper peace.
What’s going on in your life
this Holy Week?
Would you say that in general,
you have a sense of peace or disquiet
in your life here and now?
If you are experiencing some kind of disquiet,
in which areas or area of your life is this disquiet:
Is it in your family life, work, or studies,
perhaps your romantic relationships or friendships,
personal life or spiritual life?
Again, you may want to indicate your answer in this survey,
and compare it with your fellow retreatants’.
Now that you have a sense of how your life is –
its seasons both within and without –
embrace it as you prepare for this recollection.
For yourself or perhaps for a loved one,
what grace or blessing would you like to pray for
this Holy Week?
