Rappler PLUS briefing: Philippine press freedom through the film lens
MANILA, Philippines – Rappler PLUS members will get to hear behind-the-scene stories of the production of Ramona Diaz’s film A Thousand Cuts in an exclusive briefing on Wednesday, March 11, 6 pm, at the Rappler HQ.
Since President Rodrigo Duterte came into power in 2016, the administration has been harassing journalists and media companies in the country. Rappler, in particular, has been at the center of this storm, with government prosecutors mounting at least 11 investigations and suits against us. With the support of our community and colleagues, we have been able to #HoldTheLine and defend press freedom.
Diaz spent more than a year in the Philippines to capture the nation’s story of resistance through what we at Rappler experienced. A Thousand Cuts premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January, where it received standing ovations and excellent reviews.
Rappler PLUS members will also have the option to watch the briefing through the livestream above. – Rappler.com
