Rappler+ Webinar: Reality and response in a pandemic
MANILA, Philippines – In the last 5 weeks, the country has seen how families go hungry, workers lose their jobs, and local government units ably maximize resources (or get crippled by bureaucratic red tape) to respond against the impact of the coronavirus.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on the coronavirus pandemic has recently tasked local government units to lead efforts to fight COVID-19. President Rodrigo Duterte and the IATF also met with top Philippine health experts on Monday, April 20, to devise a plan after the scheduled lifting of the lockdown on April 30.
Rappler has invited Social Weather Stations President Mahar Mangahas and former Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Austere Panadero for a Rappler+ Webinar on Friday, April 24, 10 am, to talk about the realities and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mangahas will talk about ideas on easing the quarantine that will allow workers to freely earn for their families. In his weekly Inquirer column, Mangahas talked about how the government can enable Filipinos to play their roles in containing the spread of COVID-19.
Panadero, now executive director of the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF), will share the stories of how LGUs like Bataan, Agusan del Sur, and Aklan are containing the spread of the pandemic. ZFF focuses on improving health conditions of rural Filipino communities by training and promoting health leadership and governance.
