Palace: Aquino administration should get ‘high grade’
MANILA, Philippines – Despite acknowledging its failures, Malacañang, on Monday, July 27, said the Aquino administration should be given a high grade for its accomplishments in the past 5 years.
Palace Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr admitted the administration failed to accomplish all projects and programs. But he said this should be understandable as they inherited big problems and that there is still one year left to deal with them.
“Sa lahat nga ng aking nabasa at karamihan sa mga nagkokomentaryo ay nagsasabi na dahil sa napakalaki ng mga problemang hinarap, makatwiran namang bigyan ng mataas na marka ang pamahalaan dahil marami na rin namang nagawa,” Coloma said in an interview with reporters.
(All that I’ve read and most of the commentators say because of the big problems (the Aquino administration) inherited, it's just proper to give the government a high grade because it has done a lot of things.)
Unfinished projects, bigger picture
In an attempt to show his sincerity in his transportation projects, President Benigno Aquino III in his 2013 SONA joked that he would be willing to be bumped by cars if the Light Rail Transit-1 extension project does not materialize.
Coloma, in defense, sought understanding and said the public should look at the bigger picture, claiming there are many mass transit projects that were implemented. Coloma cited failure in bidding as one of the problems.
“Baka it’s better sa halip na ang tinitingnan lang ‘yung bunganga ng balon, tumalon tayo, lumabas tayo, at tingnan natin there’s really a larger picture, at kung makikita natin ‘yung big picture, marami namang iba pang features ‘yon; hindi lang ‘yung mga hindi nagawa para diin doon sa, is the glass half-empty or half-full? Baka sa halip na mag-complain na hindi pa puno, makita natin na it’s becoming more full,” Coloma said.
(It might be better to focus on the larger picture. If we see the big picture, there are many features there; not only those that were not accomplished. Is the glass half-empty or half-full? Instead of complaining why is (the glass) not full, we should see that it is becoming more full.)
Aquino in 2012 said he wants the LRT-1 project, which would run from Baclaran to Bacoor in Cavite, to end by 2015. The project remains unfinished to date. – Rappler.com
