PH-US joint training in Zambales, Palawan
MANILA, Philippines - Almost 4,000 Philippine and American troops will take part in military exercises in Palawan and Zambales next month, the US Embassy in Manila said on Tuesday, September 25.
Amphibious Landing Exercise (PHIBLEX) 13 -- involving a total of 1,200 Filipino and 2,600 US servicemen -- will be held from October 8 to 18.
PHIBLEX 13 is the 29th in a series of exercises "designed to promote regional peace and security by ensuring interoperability and readiness of Philippine and US forces," according to a statement from the US Embassy.
This year's drills will focus on improving interoperability for humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions, and training will consist of staff planning exercises, static aircraft display, multiple field training exercises, and humanitarian and civic assistance projects.
Most of the activities will take place in Zambales and the rest in Palawan.
US Ambassador Harry Thomas noted that PHIBLEX "allows us to strengthen and deepen the relationships not only between our militaries but also our communities."
"This year’s exercise provides an opportunity for our military service members and their Philippine counterparts to train side-by-side on many capabilities, particularly humanitarian assistance and disaster response, which are critical in the [disaster-prone] Ring of Fire," he added. - Rappler.com
