Binay congratulates Robredo
MANILA, Philippines – Outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay congratulated Vice President-elect Leni Robredo through a letter.
Robredo’s daughter Aika posted a copy of the said letter, dated May 31, via her Twitter account, thanking Binay and his team for being “very helpful and accommodating.”
In the letter, Binay sent his “sincerest congratulations” to Robredo, who got the nod of 14,418,817 Filipino voters, winning by a thin margin against her closest rival Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“I look forward to personally meeting you. For the past six years, and despite its modest budget, the OVP has extended its assistance to thousands of poor and marginalized Filipinos, including our brothers and sisters working abroad,” Binay wrote.
“I am confident that with you as the next Vice President, the OVP will continue to be an instrument for social justice,” added Binay, who ran but lost the presidency to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
The transition teams of Binay and Robredo already met on June 9 to discuss the transfer of power for the second highest post in the country. (WATCH: Binay, Robredo transition teams meet)
Binay is currently holding office at the Coconut Palace, but Robredo said she would prefer to stay in a cheaper office because the rent for the Coconut Palace is roughly P484,000 monthly.
An "informal meeting" between Binay and Robredo is currently in the works according to their transition teams.
