Soldier killed, 10 hurt in Davao Oriental blast
DAVAO CITY, Philippines - A soldier was killed and 10 others were wounded in an explosion allegedly perpetrated by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao Oriental on Tuesday midnight, January 22, a military official said.
Philippine Army 10th Infantry Division spokesman Lt Col Lyndon Paniza said members of the peace and development teams of the 28th Infantry Battalion were onboard two military vehicles along Sitio Mainit, Barangay Calapagan in Lupon town when an explosion ripped through the convoy.
“The army troops were part of the security of troops rendering rehabilitations to Typhoon Pablo affected areas. The NPA's again showed their barbarism and inhuman acts by disturbing our humanitarian assistance activities,” Paniza said.
The soldier killed in the attack was identified as Pfc Jhasam Diaz, Paniza said.
The wounded soldiers are being treated at the Tagum Regional Hospital and Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Mati City. - Rappler.com
