Wider Davao River bridge opens to motorists
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Driving along the Davao River will be much easier beginning Thursday, May 24, with the opening of a wider bridge along the Davao City Diversion Road in this city.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened the newly widened bridge with President Rodrigo Duterte and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar leading the inauguration ceremonies.
Also present were Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, Davao City Second District Representative Karlo Nograles, and the DPWH's Rafael Yabut, Dimas Soguilon, and Allan Borromeo.
Villar said the completion of the project will help ease the flow of traffic along the Davao City Diversion Road and Ma-a Road. Some 30,000 motorists per day pass through the bridge based on the 2017 Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT).
The P317.81 million project is part of the plan to widen the 18.3-kilometer Davao City Diversion Road from 4 to 6 lanes.
“Using Davao City Diversion Road, travel time between Barangay Ulas and Barangay Buhangin will be reduced from 80 minutes to just 30 minutes,” Villar said. – Rappler.com
