PNP puts key officials on probation
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) placed all its officials on probation for 3 months effective Monday, October 21, PNP officer-in-charge Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa announced.
“Beginning today, all key positions are under probation for 3 months. And all promotions will also be on hold,” Gamboa said in a Camp Crame briefing following their weekly flag raising ceremony.
The key positions include those in the command group – regional directors and chiefs of directorates.
The announcement comes after a massive reshuffling that moved at least 20 generals and 2 colonels after the “ninja cops” controversy damaged the reputation of the PNP to the point that they were scolded by President Rodrigo Duterte in a command conference on October 15.
How will it work? This means that by January 21, the PNP will begin re-evaluating all its officials leading to another reshuffle, regardless of who the PNP chief would be at that time. As for the promotions, he said the break would only apply to generals
"I demand that not only the Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group but equally so all the Regional and Provincial Directors as well as the Chiefs of Police to lead in rooting out and destroying this menace. I expect no less," Gamboa stressed.
He also gave them the following marching orders to be implemented down to their patrolmen:
- No golf during weekdays
- No presence in gambling joints, casinos, cockpits, and public drinking places
- No take from gambling and drug groups
- No use of confiscated vehicles
- No use of private vehicles without plate numbers
Gamboa said his orders were executed with the approval of Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, who sits as the chairman of the National Police Commission. – Rappler.com
