MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy 200 policemen to serve as special Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) in Lanao del Sur on Monday, May 13.
In a briefing on Sunday, May 12, Police Chief Supt. Generoso R. Cerbo Jr. of the PNP Public Information Office said the 200 policemen will come from Cebu.
"There are reports of the lack of BEIs in Lanao del Sur so in response, we trained police officers to be deployed in the area," Cerbo said.
Cerbo said the special BEIs were flown in via C130 to Cagayan de Oro where they were given training by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
This is in addition to the 200 policemen from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) deployed in Lanao del Sur on Saturday, May 11, to serve as BEIs and additional security forces.
Over 15 election-related incidents of violence have been reported in Lanao del Sur.
