Palace: Rescue teams ready for 'Gorio'
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Saturday, June 29, said disaster response teams are on standby as Tropical Storm Gorio advances northwest at a speed of 19 kph.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Quick Response Team in Region 8 has been ready since last night.
"Bukas po sila 24 hours…Simula po 'yan kagabi ng alas-6, at nagsimula po sila doon sa mga repacking ng mga family food packs," she said in a radio interview on Radyo ng Bayan. (They're open 24 hours, starting 6 last night. They've started repacking family food packs.)
Valte said a fund amounting to P263,920.18 is on standby, while P1.7 million-worth of food items and P270,350-worth of non-food items are ready for these provinces. 1,040 family food packs have also been prepared.
This is in addition to the funds and relief packs that have been allocated for families in the Caraga region.
“Meron na po tayong mga naka-standby na 2,000 na family food packs, at nakahanda din po 'yung standby funds ng DSWD in the amount of P300,440.80; 'yung mga other food items naman po in the amount of P1,042,000, at sa mga non-food items po natin ay P2.7 million,” said Valte.

She added that emergency, search and rescue teams in flooded areas of Mindanao are also on standby.
The Palace reminded the public to continue monitoring PAGASA for updates on tropical storm Gorio.
The storm is expected to pass through the Bicol Region, Southern Tagalog, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Northern Luzon before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
At least 23 flights have been cancelled since 11 am.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard reported 1,784 stranded passengers in Central Visayas, 2,949 in Bicol, 99 in Northern Mindanao, and 2,628 in Eastern Visayas as of 3:00 pm Saturday.
