MANILA, Philippines – If you’re a Filipino in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and would like to get a job, here’s good news: The Philippine consulate in Jeddah is planning a new job fair for you.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez on Monday, August 5, said the consulate decided to do this after its earlier job fair succeeded.
Hernandez said 300 overseas Filipino workers attended the job fair last Thursday, July 26.
“Many of them were able to land a job. Because of the success of the said event, our consulate general is planning to have another job fair after Ramadan,” Hernandez told reporters.
The job fair on July 26 was the second in a series, and was conducted by the Philippine consulate in Jeddah and initiated by Philippine labor officials.
In a statement on July 23, the Philippine consulate said companies offered jobs for engineering technicians, operators, hotel and restaurant personnel, and household service workers.
The consulate said among the applicants, females looked for jobs as hospital cleaners, hotel staff, and beauty salon and restaurant workers. Male applicants, on the other hand, looked for technical jobs.
Undocumented Filipinos, however, have sought repatriation to the Philippines due to Saudi’s crackdown on illegal workers.
Hernandez said 9 repatriates arrived on Monday, while 24 others will arrive on Tuesday, August 6.
He said this will bring the number of repatriates to 1,557. – Rappler.com
