Gigi Reyes moved to Taguig jail
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Lawyer Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes, former chief of staff of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile and co-ccused in the multi-million-peso pork barrel scam, was moved to a Taguig jail late Wednesday evening, July 9, upon the orders of the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan.
A convoy of vehicles carrying Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel left the Sandiganbayan at around 10:30 pm, headed to Bicutan. Reyes was in a BJMP ambulance, court sources said. The convoy arrived in Bicutan at around 11:15.
She will be detained inside a BJMP female dormitory within Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. (READ: Gigi Reyes to be detained in Taguig jail)
Reyes and her former boss Enrile, along with several others, are accused of earning millions of pesos in kickbacks for allegedly ensuring that the senator's Priority Development Assistance Fund would go to ghost projects of bogus non-governmental organizations.
Reyes surrendered to the anti-graft court on Friday, July 4. She was originally ordered detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Quezon City.
The jail warden later told the court they would not be able to provide sufficient security for the high-profile detainee. Reyes then asked the court to transfer her to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame but this was denied on lack of merit. (READ: How things went wrong for Gigi Reyes)
Reyes had since been detained at a female-only facility inside the Sandiganbayan building. – Rappler.com
