Metro Manila road repairs to stop for Christmas season
MANILA, Philippines – This Christmas season, expect less traffic in Metro Manila than in previous years.
This is what the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) hopes will happen, at least, as it decided to stop all road repair projects in the capital region for an entire month covering the Christmas rush.
From December 15 to January 15 next year, “we will stop excavation and make it sure the roads are safe and passable and there is no obstruction,” said DPWH National Capital Region Director Reynaldo Tagudando.
Tagudando said they want to try to finish as much roads repair work in the next 3 weeks, and will ensure that unfinished excavations by that time will be covered with steel plates.
The DPWH targets to finish 24 road projects in Metro Manila this year. It has so far finished 15.
Among the ongoing road works are on Quirino Highway and Baesa, Tandang Sora – both in Quezon City.
With the road repair moratorium, Tagudando said the “Christmas lanes” or alternative routes previously identified by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) can be used by motorists. – Rappler.com
