'Lacson for president' video posted on Facebook
MANILA, Philippines – On Facebook, a polished 30-second video is floating the name of former Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson as a presidential bet in 2016.
The video doesn't explicitly name Lacson, but makes references to Lacson's former positions in government.
A recurring theme in the video is a table bell, hit by a neighborhood store owner every time this unnamed leader's virtues are mentioned. Toward the end of the video, a man mimics the sound of the bell and says, "Ping!" – Lacson's nickname.
The video shows a man serenading a person, hoping he would say yes: "Nais ng bayan, 'yung magaling naman." (The nation needs a competent person.)
The person he is serenading, he said, never accepted discretionary funds called the pork barrel. The subject of his song also eradicated bribery as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), a female character said.
The video, uploaded in the Facebook page "Pinoy Gising Na," is posted with the caption, "Ping!" It has been shared more than 300 times, has been viewed more than 134,000 times, and has gathered more than 1,300 likes as of posting time.
Rappler asked Lacson about the source of the video, as well as other details if available. The former senator hasn't replied as of posting time.
Lacson, former presidential adviser for rehabilitation and recovery efforts after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), said in February that he is not planning but considering to run for president in 2016. (READ: Lacson-Poe tandem pushed)
