MANILA, Philippines - To say that contraception is the same as corruption is a bit too much even for the Church, according to Presidential Political Adviser Ronald Llamas.
Llamas said that the claim, expressed on Saturday during the anti-RH bill rally in EDSA, "crosses the line into impropriety." (Read: Catholics class over controversial RH bill)
In a text message to reporters on Sunday, August 5, Llamas added that the claim is "unfair but not unexpected" as from the start, the campaign against the bill "has been characterized by false claims and misinformation."
"While we respect the right of bishops, as ordinary citizens, to express their opinions, when they use their ecclesiastical office to mislead the public and to bully elected representatives, it crosses the line into impropriety," Llamas said.
Nevertheless, the presidential adviser noted that Malacañang remains confident that the RH bill get enough votes in the House of Representatives on Tuesday and insisted that Aquino firmly supports the proposed law, as the President said during his SONA address. - Rappler.com
