MANILA, Philippines - A campaign supporter of fugitive Bangued Mayor Ryan Luna was gunned down Monday morning (May 13) in Barangay Sagap, Bangued, Abra.

Genaro Martinez, 36, was killed even before polls began. Martinez, still wearing the arm cover given by Luna to his campaigners, was found near the bank of a river with shotgun wounds.

Police have yet to identify a suspect.

Luna, running for reelection against former Mayor Dominick Valera, is still nowhere to be found despite sending feelers to Cordillera Police Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong that he will surrender.

Luna went into hiding after the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered his arrest after a new witness said that he ordered the assassination of Brenda Crisologo, wife of Tineg Mayor Edwin Crisologo, in Bangued in May 2010. -
