Binay to Duterte: ‘I’m not afraid of you’
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – In yet another tirade against Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Jejomar Binay said he does not fear the tough-talking mayor.
“Mr Duterte, ang sabi mo maghanda na akong lumuhod at magdasal. Alam mo, Mr Berdugong mamamatay ng bata at pumapatay ng mga mahihirap, kung merong dapat lumuhod at magdasal, ito ay walang iba kung hindi ikaw,” said the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) standard-bearer who was campaigning in Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, on Friday, April 15.
(Mr Duterte, you said I should be ready to go down on my knees to pray. You know, Mr Executioner who kills children and the poor, if there is someone who needs to do that, it’s you.)
“Huwag mo akong babantaan. Hindi ako natatakot sa iyo (Don’t threaten me. I am not afraid of you),” said Binay.
According to the Vice President, Duterte has already admitted to committing extrajudicial killings, which Binay said is already equal to “admission against interest.” The Davao City mayor, however, has already denied this.
“Ikaw mismo ang umamin na bahagi ka at pasimuno ng Davao Death Squad (DDS). Ang Davao Death Squad ay sangkot sa extra-udicial killings na kinondena ng Amnesty International, United Nations at iba pang human rights organizations. Dapat kang managot sa batas at sa Diyos,” said the Vice President.
“Bilang na ang araw mo (Your days are numbered). The law will soon catch up with you,” he added.
This is Binay's latest attack against Duterte, who is now the poll front-runner in the presidential race.
Binay also said if he becomes president, he would create an independent commission that will investigate Duterte for the alleged summary executions and human rights violations of the DDS. The UNA presidential bet said he would send his rival to jail.
“Kita-kita doon (See you there),” was Duterte’s reply, adding that Binay should instead investigate himself and his family over the multiple corruption allegations they are facing.
Apart from Binay, presidential bets Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and Senator Grace Poe have criticized Duterte over his plan to suppress crime within 3 to 6 months. (READ: Who's afraid of Duterte? Rivals target poll front runner)
For the longest time, Duterte did not elaborate how he plans to execute this, only saying that his administration would be “bloody.”
But as his rivals started hitting him left and right, Duterte finally explained the details of his anti-crime promise.
These include raising the drug problem as a national security issue and creating a “ranger-trained” division in the army to implement it.
Poe later said she would make Duterte her anti-crime czar if she becomes president. – Rappler.com
