
Surigao del Sur mayor nabbed for firearms, marijuana possession

MANILA, Philippines – Lingig, Surigao del Sur Mayor Roberto Luna Jr, who is running for reelection in the 2019 polls, has been arrested by cops for allegedly possessing illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs on Thursday, May 9.
The arrest was completed by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force, and intelligence agents of the Caraga police.
According to the police report, Luna yielded the following:
- A Colt caliber .45 pistol
- A rifle grenade
- Magazine loaded with caliber. 9mm ammunition
- Magazines of caliber .45 pistol and KG9
- Dried leaves/stalks of marijuana
Cops also seized P2 million in P100 bills – money which the police believe was meant for buying votes. Police also found envelopes where the bills were inserted together with a sample ballot. (EXPLAINER: Vote-buying is not just giving or taking cash)
According to Caraga police chief Brigadier General Gilbert Cruz, Luna is set to face charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and violation of RA 9516 (illegal possession of explosive).
