Gorio speeds up, closer to E. Visayas
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED )- As of 10:00 am, June 28, Tropical Depression Gorio was 420 kilometers east of Surigao City, moving west-northwest at a speed of 9 kph.
According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, Tropical Depression Gorio will enhance the Southwest Monsoon, bringing moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao.
Signal no. 1 has been put up in Northern, Eastern, and Western Samar, as well as in Dinagat Island and Siargao Island. Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas in these locations are warned to be careful against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Gorio currently has speeds of 55 kph near the center and is expected to be 320 km east of Maasin, Leyte by Saturday morning.
An 11:00 am update notes that Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental should also expect cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms from June 28-29. The weather situation in the area may trigger landslides and flash floods as a result. - Rappler.com
