Parts of Luzon warned of floods, landslides on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – Parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, should brace for flash floods and landslides due to monsoon rains likely to fall on Thursday, July 9, said the Philippine weather bureau.

According to PAGASA's Wednesday evening bulletin, the areas that will be affected by the Southwest Monsoon rains are:

• Ilocos region
• Metro Manila
• Central Luzon
• Calabarzon
• Mimaropa

Western Visayas, meanwhile, can expect only occasional rains on that day. The rest of the country is forecasted to have isolated thunderstorms.

The Southwest Monsoon is also likely to bring moderate to strong winds throughout the country. These winds will make sea conditions moderate to rough.

Typhoon update

Typhoon Falcon (international name Chan-Hom) was spotted 1,065 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes at 4 pm on Wednesday, said PAGASA.

It has maintained its strength, with winds of 130 kilometers/hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 160 km/h. It is likely to move west northwest at a speed of 20 km/h.

Its track, as forecasted by PAGASA, shows that it is unlikely to reach the Philippine landmass.
