Mini miracle: 'Record-breaking' premature baby leaves Tokyo hospital

Feb 27, 2019 - 4:18 PM

The tiny tot weighed just 268 grams – under 10 ounces -– when he was delivered at 24 weeks, reportedly after he stopped growing in the womb. He was so small he fit in an adult's cupped hands.

This undated handout released by Japan's Keio University Hospital on February 27, 2019 shows a five-day-old baby, who weighed 268 grams at birth, at the hospital in Tokyo. A baby born in Tokyo weighing less than 300 grams (10 ounces) has gone home healthy, become the smallest newborn boy in the world to leave hospital safely. After five months of treatment, the baby boy now weighs 3.238 kilos, is breastfeeding normally, and has been discharged, Keio University Hospital said. Handout / Keio University Hospital / AFP
