Best HS basketball players take stage at NBTC All-Star game
MANILA, Philippines - Some of the Philippines’ up-and-coming basketball stars will be on full display in the 4th National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) All-Star Game to be held at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City on March 8, 2015, Sunday.
Featuring standout high school athletes from both the recent UAAP and NCAA basketball seasons, among other tournaments, the NBTC All-Star Game will be one of the events in a week-long series of happenings including the Seaoil NBTC championship between the Manila league champions against the best from the country.
The All-Star game, which will tip-off at 11:00 am, will comprise of two squads: the dark team to be led by San Beda Red Cubs head coach JB Sison, and the light team coached by Ateneo head coach Joe Silva. Both coaches led their respective high school teams to championships over the past few months.
Included in the dark team are Chiang Kai Shek College’s Fran Yu; NU’s Philip Manalang and Mark Dyke; Marvin Lee and Brandrey Bienes out of FEU; Frederick Tungcab from Adamson; Letran’s Jerrick Balanza; Mapua’s Denniel Aguirre; La Salle Greenhills’ John Gob; Hope Christian High School’s Jollo Go; and Mike Nieto from Ateneo.
The light team, on the other hand, is composed of Noah Lugo from Mapua; Marc Diputado, Kenneth Alas, and Nico Abatayo from San Beda; JV Gallego and Jonas Tibayan from Chiang Kai Shek College; FEU’s Wendell Comboy; Renzel Yongco from St. Jude’s; De La Salle Zobel’s Quinito Banzon; Hope Christian High School’s Tzaddy Rangel; Darius Estrella from JRU; and Ateneo’s Matt Nieto.
“The NBTC All-Star Game is big for high school players because it gives everyone a chance to be scouted by college coaches from all over the country especially in Manila, said NU Bulldogs head coach and NBTC Program founder Eric Altamirano in a press release.
“And for those who have not been recruited, this is a good venue for everyone to see what they are missing.”
A number of current UAAP and NCAA players had noteworthy performances in past NBTC All-Star Games such as Jeron Teng, Thirdy Ravena, Henry Asilum, and Dave Yu.
