Dethroned champs Iran settle for FIBA Asia bronze
MANILA, Philippines – Dethroned champions Iran escaped Japan, 68-63, to settle for the bronze medal in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship on Saturday, October 3 in Changsha, Hunan, China.
The Iranians had to shake off the Japanese up until the dying seconds as Japan came back from 15 points down in the first half.
Nikkhah Bahrami exploded with 35 points including 8-of-17 shooting from downtown. Hamed Haddadi, Iran's 7-foot-2 center, finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Keijuro Matsui led Japan with 18 points, 5 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Makoto Hiejima added 15 points and 4 assists.
