Tropang TNT signs ABL star Kris Rosales
MANILA, Philippines – Tropang TNT added even more depth to its loaded roster with the signing of Asean Basketball League star Kris Rosales.
Rappler learned on Friday, April 29, that Rosales signed with the PBA team this past Monday and will begin playing in the league’s upcoming Governors’ Cup.
The 6-foot-1, Hope International U standout recently completed a stint with the Singapore Slingers in the ABL where Rosales led the team to a finals appearance and second-place finish.
Rosales, who was taken by Phoenix (then known as Barako Bull) in the second-round of the 2015 PBA Draft, scored 22 points to go with 3 rebounds and two steals in Singapore’s Game 5 loss to the Westport Malaysia Dragons.
Philstar reported last Friday that Phoenix planned to sign Rosales, with head coach Koy Banal even scouting him personally during the ABL Finals in Singapore and Malaysia.
“In my view, he’s the next Olsen Racela,” Banal was quoted saying. Racela, a former San Miguel Beermen point guard, is considered one of the greatest point guards in PBA history.
After drafting Rosales in 2015, the Fuel Masters were unable to sign him due to the team’s heavy guard rotation.
The player’s agent, Charlie Dy, confirmed Rosales’ signing with Tropang TNT and said that he picked the Jong Uichico-coached team over the Fuel Masters.
One of the reasons why was due to Rosales’ relationship with Tropang TNT guard Ryan Reyes. Both players are Filipino-Americans.
Rosales signed a two-and-a-half year deal with his new PBA team.
