'Punch coach' Pua no-shows PBA meeting after referee assault
MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan Valley Rising Suns head coach Alvin Pua was a no-show on Friday, May 15, at the PBA Commissioner’s Office in Libis, Quezon City despite being summoned by the league for his actions during a D-League game on Thursday, May 14.
In his place, Cagayan Valley team manager Fred Collado and assistant coach Mario Bonleon were present and are expected to meet with league commissioner Chito Salud and other PBA officials.
Pua was ejected from his team’s match against the Liver Marin Guardians after assaulting referee Ben Montero towards the end of the first half. Eye-witnesses say Pua was unhappy with a warning call Montero assessed him and proceeded to both punch and elbow the game official.
This isn’t the first time Pua has been involved in such an incident, and neither is Friday the first occasion he failed to show up after being summoned by the Commissioner’s Office.
